What programs will my donations fund?

The Alliance (ADHCE) is a national leader in advancing the availability of effective, appropriate and high quality health care for persons with disabilities by promoting the inclusion of disability-related theory, research, and clinical learning experiences in health care training.

Student Scholarships In Disability Research:

Twenty-twenty was an active year. The Alliance awarded its second annual scholarship to two groups of healthcare professional students (any discipline) with a program/project that enhances healthcare education in disabilities. The two scholarships were awarded to a group of students at Rush University for their Community Healthcare Advocacy Team for Individuals with Disabilities project and to Melissa Desroches for her mixed methods study (internet survey with nested qualitative interviews) is to identify perceived barriers and facilitators to quality medical surgical nursing care of adults with intellectual disability. There were presentations on both projects at our June Annual Meeting. The 2021 meeting was our second  Annual Meeting that included a morning virtual session of 11 presentations of research and practice projects, community initiatives and projects, and ideas for new work.

Website Development

For resources and publication dissemination about best practices in disability healthcare

We are currently developing and upgrading an interactive website with paid staff to increase accessibility and better represent our mission, vision, values and principles. This will require ongoing website work efforts. We hope to at least double our membership. To do this, we set a fundraising goal of $5,000 for this next year.

Social Media Communicator

Students stipend payment or volunteer to communicate and disseminate relevant resources  about disabilities and healthcare education via social media.

The Alliance continues to receive endorsements for The Core Competencies on Disability in Health Care Education, developed in collaboration with the Ohio Disability and Health Program, a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention funded program.
